What’s Happening

12th September 2021

September marks the month of Spring. Spring brings a new set of landscape. Observe nature around us. My fig and peach trees in the garden started to grow new leaves and blossom respectively. Long stretch of bright green and yellow flower colour along the road tells you spring is here. I recently visited the Aldinga Conservation Park (known as Scrub by locals)  which is home to a diverse range of rare plants and is recognised as a significant area for the conservation and protection of the region’s flora and fauna. The nature’s view is rich and fascinating – birds chirping, special orchards growing under trees, rare lacy coral lichen and much more. It was so peaceful, I could hear my own breath and nature’s breath. Have a walk at the Scrub for your next leisure adventure !

5th September is the Father’s Day on which we celebrated by offering a special Tai Chi Push-Hands workshop. We had a great time of learning Tai Chi from listening and sensing perspective which led to more interesting Tai Chi exploration. A few couples joined the workshop as well. I was told it could be a good couple therapy tool as they had lots of fun!

With all the ongoing changes and hectic lifestyle in today’s world, being able to slow down and practise stillness is actually not easy to accomplish even you intend to do so. There are many responsibilities and obligations that push us to complete above our self needs and self-care. However, there is NO ONE ELSE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU IN THE WORLD ( not in a selfish way, but a responsible way). You know it pretty well ” You can’t give if you don’t have it”.  For example, if you are feeling flat and stressed, then you can’t offer what you would like to support your family or help others. Thus self-care is first and foremost important commitment for you and each of us to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.

You may say, I know what you mean, it is easy to say but I just don’t have the time to do it. I guess we all have the time if we really want to make the self-care our top priority. You need to change your mindset and take your health and wellbeing seriously if this hasn’t been the case. You are the ONLY person who is in charge of your health and you are responsible for its outcome.

Recently I had an interview with Norman Ord, an amazing 88-year-old man, who has been doing Qi Gong for 40 years. During the interview, he shared his simple yet effective Qi Gong daily routine with our audience. The final tip he gave to all of us is “DO IT!”. After I shared it with my students, Philippa shared her comments with me “Norman is inspiring! I did 5 of his 6 standing poses just then in 25 minutes and felt as hot as a furnace by the end of the 4th one.”. What an elevating energy experience she had. Love it.
Another comment from Carla, DEAR Fang, Thank you so much for this video! Norman has contributed to my “reawakening” to Zhan Zhuang. If Norman can do it at 88, I can surely do it at a mere 74!” And it’s proved true!

Remember Norman started in his 40’s and he has been rewarded for 40 plus years with good health and happiness. Regardless your age and fitness level, you can do Tai Chi and Qi Gong without any previous learning experience. All you need is an open mind and “Do It ” attitude and commitment. Without commitment, even you have the great potential, you won’t fully benefit from the greatness of Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Like anything in life, if you want to accomplish and succeed, attitude and commitment are essential for excellency.

I am excited to announce two upcoming Qi Gong workshops “Eight Piece of Brocade” in October and “Five Animal Qi Gong”  in November. I will work with Paige Olsen, an experienced TCM acupuncturist to offer you these two workshops.

Both workshops will be held at beautiful Heartland retreat in Aldinga. Due to the popularity of our workshop jn May, I encourage you to take this opportunity to book early ( the workshop was fully booked out in two weeks in May, with a few on waiting list), so you won’t be disappointed.

As Bruce Lee said in an interview, “BE WATER”. Be water, be the flow of energy, let your vitality shine inside out. This is my wish for everyone and the reason why I started my Tai Chi school.
