Health Benefits of Tai Chi for many chronic health conditions

May 2025

Welcome everyone to our May newsletter :)

I am excited to share the recent news about Tai Chi for Preventing and Treating Health Conditions: evidence evaluation report published by National Health and Medical Council.

Based on extensive peer-reviewed studies around the world, Tai Chi has approved its health effectiveness, and is covered by private health insurance in Australia now. A wonderful news for many who have worked tirelessly and collaboratively over the last 5 years to show our government the health benefits of Tai Chi through scientific evidence.

The then Minister for Health and Ageing media release on 14th April includes a list of natural therapies. More details can be found https://www.markbutler.net.au/news/media-releases/yf7nvwdw52bzu2sirzmk27pmdmw609?fbclid=IwY2xjawJ72fVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFCTU5XamF3N2dHelZzbmJsAR4eILs1THiZoo23LClqt_CakhCAm2hGm3a2y9Jogwi01l6Q1GhedWiNn-Xwag_aem_I83a69QfcglV8Bn6-vp1bQ

In the 184-page Natural Therapies Review 2024, some main findings for Tai Chi include

** pain and stiffness reduction in people with osteoarthritis
** fall prevention
** functional mobility and psychosocial wellbeing improvement in adults with chronic health conditions, such as CHF, COPD, anxiety disorder
** fatigue reduction in cancer survivors

The list goes on …

To keep it simple, Tai Chi is an effective lifestyle choice to improve physical and mental health, no matter what your current situation is.

People who lead active life can have physical setbacks. Being active doesn’t mean having no physical pain or injury, sometimes, it is quite the opposite!

Tai Chi can be an excellent exercise to keep you moving while healing within through its gentle and mindful movements. Why not give Tai Chi a go?

At the International Hip Dysplasia Institute website, Tai Chi is mentioned as “Excellent for flexibility and balance” under “Sports Activities and Exercise”. The website has professional resources and lots of personal stories shared. If you or someone you know who has trouble with their hips (i.e. arthritic hips), share this website with them. More information is at https://hipdysplasia.org/adults/hip-dysplasia-and-every-day-life/.

Tai Chi practice manifests Tai Chi Yin & Yang principle. There is Yin & Yang in each of us as we are made of. Tai Chi trains us to be Yin outside ( agile and flexible) and Yang inside ( energetic and strong). Through Tai Chi, we seek the balance between Yin and Yang. We come to know better of ourselves, so we can lead a balanced, more fulfilling life.

I welcome your feedback, always.

Yours in Tai Chi,
Fang & the Team
