Winter time – nourishing time

July 2025

Welcome everyone to our July newsletter :)

I hope you stay well and warm through some cold winter days in July.

For those who practise Tai Chi swords, there is an important update about recent changes in the Knife Crime Legislation Reforms in which swords and machetes are classified as prohibited weapons. Details can be found at https://www.agd.sa.gov.au/law-and-justice/legislation/knife-crime-laws. It is effective from 1st July 2025.

To stay worry-free, it means you need to have a weapon exemption paperwork with you when you carry the sword in public space.

According to the Prohibited Weapons Exemptions Sport and Recreation ( Clause 9), Tai Chi students who carry swords would be exempt, seen as recreational activity. Being aware of the regulations and your right is important.

This year we have made conscious decision to not offer Tai Chi and Qi Gong class in most July, aiming at your own pace of self-care and wellbeing in line with the slower pace of our nature.

In winter, there are more time indoors than outdoors ( though nothing stops you from going out on a clear sunny winter day). Cooking can really bring family together with joy and laughter. Hot pot would be a good one. Imagine family and friends sit around a dinning table with a hot pot at the center. You can cook all kinds of ingredients, such as sliced meat, your favourite vegetables, mushroom, anything you like, then dip the cooked food in delicious sauce to add more flavour and nourishment. Making dumpling is another good idea. An action of making, chatting and eating together to create fun family time memory.

Most people know Maggie Beer, a passionate cook who cares about people and is changing aged care food for good.

Her go-to dish is comforting and full of flavour: chicken thighs marinated in rosemary and vino cotto, paired with green lentils cooked in stock, and finished with a winter salad of radicchio.
“It’s quick, full of flavour, and satisfying, which is what I call impressive”.

What is your favourite winter food to give you the satisfaction and happiness?:)

Though July seems quiet outside, lots of things are in the making. Watch tree changes through winter to spring, you know what I am talking about.
