What’s Happening

June 2022

Hello Tai Chi friends and enthusiasts, a warm welcome to our June Newsletter!

These days, very often, we talk about ‘work and life balance’ and ‘mental health and wellbeing’. The terms of mindfulness and wellbeing might be overused a bit, however, it does reveal mindset change and shift of life priorities for many
Australians, particularly the working ones. Over the last two-year global coronavirus pandemic, Australia’s version of the ‘great resignation’ is noticeable. Surveys by Microsoft and PwC of over 1000 Australians show 40 per cent and 38 per cent respectively are expecting to leave their jobs in 2022. Many say they will move because they can now work remotely. For others, mental health is a big factor in their decision-making, with workers increasingly demanding mental health support as well as flexibility from their employers.

What is a balanced lifestyle? I think, first of all, the choices you make need to be sustainable to benefit you (your health and wellbeing and other things around) in a long run. A balanced lifestyle is not to have two big holidays and then work crazy hours when you return back from the holiday. How to maintain yourself the best possible way against natural ageing process? There is no solution to fit all, however, there are certainly good choices and not too good ones out there, so be wise!

Tai Chi is a very potent ancient healing exercise with time-proven outcome based on Daoism philosophy and optimal fitness methodology. It allows you to activate your mind and body fully while relaxing your tightened nervous system due to stress or over-thinking. As we all know, many illness and disease are caused by stress, so any exercise you choose to do to release stress would be good for you.

Think about this for a moment. What kind of exercise/activities can you do when you are 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 till 70 years old? not only you can do it, but you enjoy doing it and it helps you maintain suppleness, enhance your vitality and make you feel good inside out?

I believe Tai Chi is a good choice. You can read and investigate many studies over the last 30 years to get some good understanding of this ancient healing art, you can talk with people and ask their experience and feedback.

What I like about Tai Chi is that it is so natural, giving and empowering, and its mind-body flow in tranquillity. You need nothing, but yourself. You don’t need much space, you can do it with one or two moves, or stand still like a tree ( still benefit from it!). You don’t have to worry about any side-effect. And it is cost-effective. Once you have learned the principles and some moves, you can practise yourself without costing you anything. When you have the freedom derived from strength and flexibility ( I am talking about this on many levels, from physical level to psychological level and spiritual level, like strength in self-confidence, flexibility in let it go etc), you will find a life you may not know that exists and own it. During my UK trip, I had the privilege to interview Tai Chi Master Faye Yip, the Founder of Deyin Taijiquan Institute, President of British Health Qi Gong Association, who shared her Tai Chi journey and her thoughts on Tai Chi and Qi Gong with me. Through the winter season, our body immune system can be challenged by cold and changeable weather. It is important to maintain and boost the immune system so that we don’t get sick or, at least, less often.

To assist your Tai Chi practise and our global Tai Chi community, I am excited to offer two ONLINE Qi Gong workshops in July and August. This is my first online workshops in 2022. Now you can access quality Tai Chi teaching and learning at your cosy home, no matter where you are. All information is at the https://meridian-connection.com.au/our-events/.

As one of my students once shared with me “you are sort of float your way out of the class” . I am looking forward to meeting you in class and online.

stay warm and well.

Yours in Tai Chi,
Fang and Meridian Connection Tai Chi team
