Tai Chi – an ancient Martial Arts, finding your Yin & Yang in life

February 2023

Hello Hello Tai Chi students, friends and enthusiasts, a warm welcome to our 2023 February Newsletter!

I am surprised how fast time flies when I start to draft this month newsletter. Talking about the Christmas and New Year seems like yesterday, yet it is February now.

First of all, I like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to back to the class, to you who have been practising Tai Chi and Qi Gong with us from last year, or the year before. Also to you who just enrolled this term, a warm welcome to you ! You know who I am talking to, right? I see a big smile on your face :)

As part of the class ritual, we solute to each other at the beginning and the end of  each class. I think it is important to know a bit more about the meaning of Tai Chi solute or greeting. I found this blog from Balanced Life Tai Chi. Check it out  https://balancedlifetaichi.com/blog/the-tai-chi-salute-or-greeting.

Everyone has some sort of ritual or established habits to make life relatively in order. We can not avoid ongoing changes and chaos, so it is about to find orders and balance in chaos, like Yin and Yang. Growing older has made me realised there is a beauty in chaos, though it can be hard to see this way, but what life would be if it is only one-sided ( say just always in order). How can I appreciate the beauty when things are improving and for better? Of course, if life is full of chaos, it is no good neither.

To find Yin and Yang in life requires your commitment for self-love. The word of Self-love may be overused and sounds simple, however, the real practice of self-love is a very difficult thing to achieve. It is not about anything else or how others and society think about you, it is about how you treat yourself. For me, I like to find more time for myself, which is not easy at times, but if there is a will, there is a way. Would a short morning exercise work for you to give you the peace for yourself to set up a calming and loving tone for the rest of the day? If the answer is yes, then watch this video made for you to start today!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXiCHnFuPJg. Though this can’t replace the in person class, it is a good start for a Yin & Yang balanced life.

February is a very exciting month personally as Tai Chi Master Peter Wu is agreed to travel from Melbourne to Adelaide to conduct a three day tai chi workshop, a rare opportunity for all Tai Chi students, fans and anyone who has some martial arts interests and experience.
One of my students Juliette who booked the three-day workshop told me her interest in the Day 3 push hands is
“Something that intrigues me and interests me is How to use the surrender force in effective way. Ie How to let go and experience inaction and action and to know when is the right time to use one or the other”.

The workshop information is at the school website https://meridian-connection.com.au/20230224-workshop/ . If I were you, I would jump to the computer now and know more about Master Peter Wu and book it straight away to get the early bird rate ( finishes on12th Feb) and experience something exceptional!

That is all for this month. I am looking forward to seeing you in person in the class and at the workshop. Also looking forward to hear from you who will share your Yin and Yang story.

To your Tai Chi journey,
Fang and the Team
