Tai Chi & Qi Gong – Be Supple and Strong

August 2024

How many of you have noticed that our body doesn’t move the way we want it to (bend/stretch/lift/turn) as we are getting older? Injuries are more likely to occur when we are less flexible along with weaker bone density.

There are many health benefits by practising Tai Chi & Qi Gong to improve flexibility and body conditioning. Every class we offer has overall aim and specific health focus. For instance, when we introduced Swimming Dragon Qi Gong practice first time last term, students embraced it instantly for many reasons, such as its dynamic gracefulness and fluidity in movements. Besides positive feedback from our students, 4 core benefits of Swimming Dragon Qi Gong practice is shared at HoldenQiGong website,
1. Clears and Cleanses Stagnation
2. Improves Flexibility and Strength
3 . Boosts Internal Power
4. Increases Longevity

Over the last few decades, I have become more curious about the endless magic of human body, mind and its own healing power. What is so encouraging is that we all have the healing power within! Peer-reviewed studies have shown self-healing mechanism and enhancement methodologies. The key here is that we need to learn how to connect what we have already got and cultivate our mind and body with patience and perseverance so that we can live the best independent life as long as possible.

It is always heart-warming and rewarding when students share why they continue their journey,

“Injuries over the years drew me to the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong for my wellness. I discovered how continual practice improves my balance, my breathing, my muscle strength and overall wellbeing. It brings me a sense of calm, being in the moment, which I call moving meditation. When friends try, it gives me such joy when they see the benefits it makes to their health. I am grateful to Fang and Luke for their teaching and friendship.”

“ Qi Gong has helped me to relearn my nerve and muscle pathways as synapses in my brain reconnect.
I have improved my ability to know where I am in space after years of muscle micro management. Although I have done martial arts for 3 decades, this is the first time I have truly tuned in to the subtleties of nerve nuances. Perhaps a by-product of a brain injury, nevertheless a positive improvement.
My motivation to continue practice is to further fine tune my vestibular interpretation, which I believe is entirely possible with more practice and expert guidance from the Meridian Connection crew.
