Tai Chi – Improve Flexibility and Strengthen the Spine
November 2024
This month is half gone. With gorgeous weather, it is fun to be out and about, enjoying the sunshine, beach view, walking with friends and doing your garden! Maybe for some, it is house reno, you know who I am talking 😊
I want to dedicate this month newsletter with a focus on our flexibility. When we are getting older, we are not as supple and flexible as we are younger. Agreed? But can we reverse it with some good established daily routine?
The answer is …. Super Possible!
We have seen or heard true stories about people who can do splits in their 80s and 90s. Watch this 83-year young man what he can do!
I think regular and consistent practice is the key. Stretching is like you are massaging your tensions, ligaments and fascia every day. The reward is you will feel less stiff, become softer, lighter and more flexible. Consequently, less pain and more ‘feel great’ with yourself.
I have made a commitment to do a 28-Day Flexibility challenge to see how my flexibility may be improved. The idea is to record my 10- minutes daily routine, simple and (maybe) spontaneous. All videos will be uploaded onto https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=meridian+connection+tai+chi ( search Youtube, then Meridian Connection Tai Chi). The program will be available to watch on 25th November Monday. I am not a fitness stretching expert, I just want to do something to improve my flexibility. If you want to do it with me, I would love to have you on board. The more, the merrier! Use what suits you and leave the rest. If mine looks too boring for you, visit https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=movement+by+david. David is a down-to-earth guy with solid knowledge base, definitely very flexible which I guess he has worked through to earn it.
“How to get flexible for adults” video can be watched here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v53qrmawvOo. There are some valuable insights of how to improve our flexibility. What drew my particular attention is David mentioned how important the spine (often understated or undervalued) is as it is the vital commander to deliver all the neuro signals for improved pain threshold and more flexible muscular movements.
Tai Chi is an excellent exercise to keep our spine healthy, strong and flexible as we are continuously moving with controlled rotation, stretch and spiral, slowly yet energetically. If you have spine-related stiffness and pain issues, I would like to invite you to try tai chi or practice Tai Chi on a more regular basis.
Let’s roll up our sleeves and get started😊
Stay well,
Fang & the Team
