Tai Chi and Qi Gong – good health and longevity

June 2026

Welcome everyone to our June newsletter.

Winter is officially here with us. With sharp swings in temperature, cold and wet weather often triggers bodily aches and pain, and may also take a toll on our mental well-being.

These physical struggles are explained thousands of years ago in China’s iconic medical classic, the Huang Di Nei Jing (The Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic), via its -well-know saying: Free flow brings no pain; blocked circulation causes pain.

Therefore, maintaining unobstructed Qi (life essence; energy) and blood circulation is vital for good health and longevity. In winter, fluctuating temperatures can severely impede the smooth flow of our Qi and blood.

So what practical steps can we take this winter to safeguard our health and well-being?

1. Nourish the body with warming seasonal foods
Choose warm, nourishing meals to counteract cold weather; avoid excessive cold raw food which may slow Qi circulation and weaken the digestive system.
One of my favourite winter food is pumpkin and sweet potato soup. Here is the recipe https://itsnotcomplicatedrecipes.com/spiced-pumpkin-and-sweet-potato-soup/, full of goodness!

2. Keep warm and protect sensitive areas
Wrap neck, waist and feet well, and other vulnerable parts as needed when outdoors. Cold invading these key areas easily blocks circulation and brings on aches, stiff joints or colds.

3. Strengthen the immune system with gentle daily Tai Chi & Qi Gong movements.
Regular Tai Chi & Qi Gong practice keeps Qi and blood circulating freely throughout the body, generating warmth, comfort and a calming, relaxing sensation. Many peer-reviewed studies have proven the potent healing benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong over the past decades. Dr Turner Oster published an article detailing Tai Chi health benefits through the lens of modern medicine. Want to experience these health benefits in person? Our upcoming June Wilde Good Qi Gong Workshop is ideal for you.

We will learn simple, practical Wild Goose sequences as well as guided meditation designed to unblock stagnation, boost Qi and blood flow, relieve joint stiffness and strengthen immunity through the cold winter months. Space are limited, so register early to reserve your place https://meridian-connection.com.au/20260620-workshop/.

Twenty percent of the workshop proceeds will be donated to Flinders Foundation. We close this month’s newsletter with a traditional Chinese verse:

Close your eyes and you will see clearly
Cease to listen and you will hear truth
Be silent and your heart will sing
Seek no contact and you will find union
Be still and you will float on the tide of the spirit
Be gentle and you will need no strength
Be patient and you will achieve all things
Be humble and you will remain entire

Looking forward to seeing you at the workshop and in classes soon.

Stay well,
Fang & the Team
